Russel is a modern thinker of our age. In this essay, “Science and Values” he has expressed his views on science and its effects on human life. In his views, science is a good servant but a bad master for mankind. Science in itself is not harmful because it is a knowledge of life. It becomes an enemy to man if it is used unwisely. It can prompt intensity two evils. They are tyranny war. Science has invented deadly weapons chemical gases, atom bombs e-t-c. to kill mankind.

These negative qualities can destroy the world at any time. Russel suggests that this world can be make a happy place if we eliminate war, control population and introduced true democracy in the world. But science has also advantages for mankind. It can abolish poverty and excessive hours of labor. Science has introduced to us modern method of agriculture. That’s, why, we are able to produce more feed.

Discovery of medicine

Science has played a great role in the field of medicine. Now we have controlled death rates among children with the help of vaccination.

Law and Order Situation

Law and order situation has also been controlled in big cities with the help of science. It has also given the art of finger prints reading to detect crimes.

Spread of Education

Science has fought successfully against illiteracy and ignorance. Education has made the people open minded and tolerate. It has made him impartial and realistic
